Working with an overhead projector, a screen, paper cut-outs, lighting gels and sand Jennie sets up environments for performances.
Jennie creates live shows and shadow films, collaborating with professional performers and the public. ‘The screen provides anonymity, allowing even the most self-conscious people to relax in front of the camera.’ In 2011, for the exhibition Coming of Age, Jennie created an alphabet of ageing, a silhouette film installation of scientists researching ageing in their laboratories, seen alongside the daily activities of her elderly parents. Jennie also worked with hospital patients, school groups and families investigating a variety of subjects from pond life to history, at the National Trust’s Calke Abbey and for Cultural Olympiad projects at nature reserves in the Midlands. Jennie's first product, a Mini Shadow Theatre, explores the history of exercise and inspires people to create their own miniature animation shows. Jennie’s animated silhouette film ‘Shadows and Steam’ part of a Cultural Olympiad commission, can now be seen on vimeo along with her other short silhouette films. Jennie is currently working with The Natural History Museum, she is also creating animations for a musical and in the spring will be part of ‘Cargoes’ an Ignite project based on canal boats in the midlands.
